Kyoto Protocol 2007


On the 24-25th of May, 2007 the second international conference “Russia and Kyoto Protocol” held by National organization of carbon pickup project support and analytical company Point Carbon took place at the Saint-Petersburg State Mining Institute.
The conference put together the representatives of ministries and administration, project owners and developers, customers of reduced emissions, analysts and experts, “carbon” investors to enable its participants to get the latest information on current state and trends of international carbon market development and establish business contacts with potential partners.
The total numbers of participants was over 300 people, 100 of them were representatives of foreign states.

Our company has been appointed the official travel agent for the event and provided complete visa and travel support for participants and visitors from Russia and international guests.

The Kyoto Protocol is international treaty, accepted in Kyoto (Japan) in December, 1997 to the amendment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC), assigning mandatory emission limitations for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to 106 nations. The period of signing of the protocol lasted from the 16th of March, 1998 till the 15th of March, 1999. The federal law “On ratification of theKyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change” was passed by the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the 22nd of October, 2004 and approved by Soviet of the Federation on the 27th of October, 2004 (¹128-fl). The protocol has come into force since the 16th of February, 2005.

Within the framework of the conference there were the following thematic sections:

• International carbon market
• State and trends of Russian market of cooperative project implementation
• Kyoto protocol and carbon market: business significance
• Russian projects of cooperative implementation
and panel discussions:
• Market of voluntary reductions of emissions
• Scheme of objective  economic investments
• Project cycle of carbon project

The conference participants obtained the latest information on current state and trends of international carbon market development and established business contacts with potential partners.
The participants also got acquainted with the academic process organization and researches in the institute, visited the Mining museum and the Church of Blessed Makariy the Egyptian. The level of conference organization was highly estimated at their speeches.
