The 18th Mendeleev Congress 2007

The XVIIIth Mendeleev Congress on General and Applied Chemistry will be held in Moscow (Russia), 23–28 September 2007. The Congress is organized by The Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation and Moscow Government. The Mendeleev Congress is the most prestigious national meeting of Russian chemists and this scientific event also embraces leading chemists and technologists from all over the world. The scope of the XVIII Mendeleev Congress covers all major trends and problems of modern chemistry. The Program of the Congress will include plenary and invited lectures as well as oral and poster communications on the main areas of pure and applied chemistry, materials sciences, chemical technology, and chemical education.

  The Mendeleev Congresses are held usually every 4-5 years. More than 1500 chemists from Russia, former Soviet Union and foreign countries participated in the previous, XVII Mendeleev Congress in the city of Kazan, in particular, Professor J. -M. Lehn (France), Professor R. Noyori (Japan), as well as President of IUPAC, Professor P.S. Steyn, Vice President of IUPAC, Professor L.K. Sydnes, President of ACS, Dr. E. Reichmanis, the Secretary General of the RSC, Dr. D. Giachardi and many other prominent chemists.

  Coming XVIII Mendeleev Congress will be dedicated to 100th anniversary of Mendeleev Congresses in Russia. Co-chairmen of the Organizing Committee are Professor Yu.S. Osipov (the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Professor Yu.M. Luzhkov (Mayor of Moscow and a chemist!), and Professor A.A. Fursenko (the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation). More than 1500 scientists and distinguished chemical leaders are expected to attend the Congress this year.

  The list of plenary speakers will include Nobel Prize laureates J.I. Alferov (Russia), J.-M. Lehn (France) and R.R. Schrock (USA), President of ISCU G. Mehta (India), President of IUPAC B. Henry (Canada), Executive vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences C. Bai (China), Mayor of Moscow, professor Yu. Luzhkov, vice-President of Russian Academy of Sciences N. Plate, President of RCS P. Sarkisov, Director of G.T.Seaborg Institute D.L. Clark (USA) and RSC Director of Science and Technology R. Townsend (UK), Full Members of RAS E. Kablov, A. Miroshnikov, V. Parmon and A. Tsivadze.
 There is an extensive scientific program planned, accompanied with various exiting social events, exhibitions, round table discussions and visits to research centers in Moscow as well as several tours to St.-Petersburg and other historical places in Russia.
